![]() ![]() The generic drivers are useful if macOS cannot find the correct driver, if the printer’s driver is no longer compatible with the latest version of macOS, etc. Listed are options for both generic PostScript and PCL drivers. But if you manually go to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners > + and attempt to add a printer that is accessible via direct connection or over the network, you’ll get some options at the bottom that look like this: Most printers that connect directly over USB simply find the manufacturer’s respective driver automatically and you never really have to mess with it. If you attempt to install a printer in macOS, you have some options as far as what driver you use. ![]() I’ll get to that soon enough, but I figured I’d start off with something a bit easier. In my last write up I had mentioned going over managing printers in Jamf (or at least how I do it) in a future set of posts. I took a little break after Jamf 300 training, but now that the summer is winding down, I’m ready to start posting again. It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I’m happy to be back.
